2010 SPEED DAWG CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA SPRINT CAR POINT SERIES
In 2006, Speed Dawg Performance Apparel & Products reintroduced the overall Central Pennsylvania Sprint Car Point Series. It was created to establish an overall Central PA champion and to provide a bonus award for the accomplishment. The inaugural season could not have been more exciting as the champion was not determined until the final laps of the 94th and final race. Fred Rahmer was crowned as the Series Champion, Lance Dewease was the leading feature winner and Doug Esh was the inaugural event winner.
In 2007, the Series championship once again went down to the wire with Fred Rahmer clinching his second consecutive title in the next to last event of the season. Greg Hodnett, who missed several events due to injuries suffered early in the season, was the leading feature winner and swapped the Series top spot with Rahmer several times during the final weeks of the season. The Series Third Place finisher, Lucas Wolfe, was drawn from the pool of Top Ten finishers to receive the inaugural Lucky Dawg Bonus Award.
In 2008, Fred Rahmer claimed his 3rd consecutive Speed Dawg title by leading the region in top 5 finishes and scoring more than twice as many victories than the next winningest driver. Todd Shaffer and Greg Hodnett finished second and third respectively separated by a mere 8 points. The Lucky Dawg Bonus was awarded to Todd Shaffer.
In 2009, Greg Hodnett earned the Speed Dawg Series title on the strength of 10 feature event wins which was the most of any driver in the region. Fred Rahmer made a late season charge to claim the Series Runner-up position and Cody Darrah scored an impressive Third Place finish. For the second year in a row Todd Shaffer was the Lucky Dawg Bonus Award winner.
In 2010, the Speed Dawg Central PA Sprint Car Point Series will once again utilize the same point structure that was created for the Pabst Point Series of the 1980's and the Busch Point Series of the early 1990's. The top 10 feature race finishers in each event earn points that are tallied throughout the season. The points are awarded as follows: 50 points for 1st, 35 for 2nd, 30 for 3rd, 25 for 4th, 20 for 5th, 18 for 6th, 16 for 7th, 14 for 8th, 12 for 9th, and 10 for 10th. In the event of a tie at the end of the season the driver with the highest feature win total would earn the position. If a tie still remains, the driver with the greater number of 2nd place finishes would earn the spot, then 3rd place finishes and so on. Included in the tentative schedule are Lincoln, Williams Grove, Port Royal, Selinsgrove, Hagerstown, Grandview and Bedford Speedways. Events must offer a minimum total purse payout of $10,000 to be included in the Point Series.
Four Associate Sponsors will provide additional support for the 2010 Series. Butler Built Seats, Hoseheads.com, Maxim Chassis and Winters Performance Products have each contributed $1000 to bring the total bonus payout to $6500. The Champion will receive $3000 and the "Top Dawg" trophy at the York County Racing Club Hall of Fame induction banquet in January 2011. The second place finisher will receive $2000 and the third place finisher will receive $1000. The drivers finishing in positions 4 through 10 in the final standings will be entered into a drawing for the "Lucky Dawg" award. The Series Champion will draw the winning number from the pill bag that is used to determine starting lineups thoughout the season. The Lucky Dawg winner will receive $500 and each of the drivers finishing in positions 2 through 10 will receive a Speed Dawg Central PA Sprint Car Point Series plaque to recognize them as being among sprint car racing's elite.
